Master of Divinity (Proposed)

The Religious Studies Program at Hampton University, pending approval from SACSCOC*, intends to offer the Master of Arts (MA) and the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degrees in Fall 2016, though we are awaiting confirmation from SACSCOC on their accreditation approval. We are pleased at your interest in the expanded curriculum and both the undergraduate and the graduate levels.

Concentrations: Pastoral Leadership & Executive Ministry

Seventy-two hours of academic course work and twelve hours of field-based experiences, arranged in five nine-week sessions, lead to the Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree in Religious Studies. The degree offers two specialized areas of concentration: Pastoral Leadership and Executive Ministry that prepares students for general pastoral and religious leadership in congregations and other faith settings. Module-based courses specifically selected from each concentration are customizable for leaders of faith organizations who need a combination of both areas of emphasis to meet individual ministry needs.

This expanded university-based program of religious and theological study is undergirded by the larger academic environment of Hampton University as a comprehensive institution. In addition, field education will take place in a variety of contexts which includes small group interactions where students can reflect on their practical internship ministry experiences with peers and mentors.
